At 24, I was lost.
The professional contract I’d been chasing hadn’t happened. My football career looked like it was coming to an end.
Then I got an opportunity to come to Australia. The plan was simple: play football here for six months.
That was 16 years ago. I’m still here.
I went on to play until I was 38. I earned more money playing football in Australia than I believe I ever would have earned if I’d stayed in England.
But football was only part of it. The people I’ve met. The relationships I’ve built. The places I’ve been. The network I’ve created. The life I’ve built here.
None of it would have happened if I hadn’t taken that opportunity.
And that’s a big part of why I do what I do today. For the past eight years, I’ve helped players find opportunities in Australian football.
